Song review - Thunderstruck by AC/DC
Thunderstruck is such a master piece song by AC/DC. The song has an amazing combination of guitars, drums, vocals and backing vocals. The opening guitar riff combined with the backing vocals are amazing.
The result of the song was as expected: the song is used in several movies, advertisements, sports events... the list of usage of this song is extremely huge and I will list them below.
The band AC/DC also used the song Thunderstruck as the opening song for several gigs and some of them are on live DVD's.
The song was launched in a title single for the album "The Razors Edge" in 1990 in Germany, Australia and Japan. The success of the song Thunderstruck can be seen on music charts which peaked top #5 in Australia (ARIA), #1 Finland (Suomen virallinen lista), #3 Netherlands (Single Top 100), #3 New Zealand (Recorded Music NZ), #4 US Rock Digital Songs (Billboard) and more... ( I will list the complete charts below).
Over a million downloads were sold since the song became available in digital music shops. The official video was filmed at at London's Brixton Academy
and the audience was wearing a T-shirt with the words "AC/DC - I was Thunderstruck".
I have been involved with the rock night scene in the United Kingdom for a long time and I can say this song is a "must-play" for several rock pubs and bars in London. New rock bands always like to play Thunderstruck song in their rehearsals as a warm up song and I don't need to tell you why. The song is very popular and AC/DC
fans jump from the start to the end when the band performs live, especially as opening song for the gig.
The song emerges with a guitar riff that Angus was playing for a long time. Angus played the riff for his brother Malcom and he told him he has a good idea for it and they work in the song together. The huge success is explained :)"It started off from a little trick I had on guitar. I played it to Mal and he said 'Oh, I've got a good rhythm idea that will sit well in the back.' We built the song up from that. We fiddled about with it for a few months before everything fell into place. Lyrically, it was really just a case of finding a good title ... We came up with this thunder thing and it seemed to have a good ring to it. AC/DC = Power. That's the basic idea.", stated Angus Young
The cover of the single "Thunderstruck" say its all : Angus Young is heading his guitar up and a lighting is shotting from the guitar. The single includes 4 songs and the opening track is the title song.
The official video of the song is very good and was recorded in London. Everyone in the audience was dressing the same AC/DC white t-shirt. The idea of filming the video at London's Brixton Academy was very good as this place is very nice for a rock concert. The 4 store galleries make the public so close to the band and gives a feeling of an exclusive gig for just a few prople.

Other cusiosity about it is the slot machine game Thunderstruck
launched by the casino software developer Microgaming
. Obviously, the game doesn't have nothing to do with the song but the title and characters called the attention of AC/DC fans always searching for something related with the band. The result is that most of fan blogs and sites posted something about this casino game and due the look and feel of the slot, AC/DC fans started to play it online.
